Stefano Neri, Ph.D. in Economic Sociology from the University of Brescia, is Associate Professor of Economic Sociology at the University of Milan. At the same university, he teaches Comparative Welfare Systems and Sociology of Organizations and Professions. He is also the Coordinator of the MA Programme in Public Administration and Policy.
He is currently a member of the Board of Research Committee 52 (Sociology of Professional Groups) of the International Sociological Association (ISA) and of Research Network 19 (Sociology of Professions) of the European Sociological Association (ESA).
His main research interests include comparative health, social and education policies; the organization and regulation of work in personal care services and local authorities; employment relations in public services; and the sociology of professional groups. He has been a visiting professor at Charles University in Prague and at the University of Bremen.
Among his research activities, he was Principal Investigator of the SOWELL Project (“Social Dialogue in Welfare Services: Employment Relations, Labour Markets and Social Actors in Care Services”), funded by the European Commission, DG Employment (2020–2022), and has recently served (2023-2026) as Coordinator of the Milan Research Unit in the QWoRe Project (“Quality of Work in Residential Long-Term Care Services in Italy: Determinants and Strategies”), funded by the Italian Ministry of Education.
